About Australia Australia is big, in fact it is the largest island in the world with a coastline of over 31000 miles, yet has a relatively small population of 21 million people. The majority of Australians live within 30 miles of the sea, probably why we associate the Aussies with a laidback lifestyle of sun, sea and surf. But there is a lot, lot more to Australia than beach life. Its vibrant stylish coastal cities offer a wealth of things to do and see including tours, museums, galleries, restaurants, bars and nightlife and yet you are never far from the relaxation and the cooling sea breezes of the thousands of glorious sandy beaches. Inland, Australia has a diverse and fascinating landscape, everything from tropical lush rainforests to isolated red sand deserts and dried up lakes and rivers back to rolling hills and snow covered mountains. From coast to coast Australia offers the visitor so many new and memorable experiences and should be on everyone’s wish list, as this is unforgettable and truly wonderful country.
Best time to visit - Australia There is never really a wrong time to visit Australia; however, being in the southern hemisphere, the seasons are in reverse from Europe. When the northern hemisphere is shivering in the winter, Australia enjoys long, hot summers. The popular cities of Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth often swelter in temperatures reaching above 40 degrees. The further north you go heading up towards the tropics, summer time can be hot and humid and at times can experience heavy rain and thunderstorms. With this is mind, Australia’s tropical north, rainforest and Great Barrier Reef are best visited during our summer time (May to October) when it is drier but remains warm and sunny.
